Looking to take your training to the next level? Are you wanting to get faster, set a new PR, or qualify for a certain race? Then our Tri-State racing team is for you. This group is designed to complement our standard training group with an emphasis on improving existing performance while staying healthy. Participation gives you direct access to Coach Randy Cox, a dedicated employee of Tri-State Running Company, as well as a running coach at all levels, including the NCAA, for over 40 years. Coach will provide weekly workouts that are specifically designed for this group, as well as provide guidance for the rest of your weekly training. This group meets seasonally, which accommodates a variety of distances and races including Spring/Fall marathons, as well as the summer 5K season. We don’t forget about the all-important recovery period as best practices will be used to get you back to the starting line as fit and healthy as possible. Participants will have access to all of our training and physical therapy partners. We offer the best value for those looking to improve their running in a fun, motivating environment.
About the Head Coach
Coach Randy Cox has been involved in the Greater Cincinnati distance running scene since 1974. Born with a foot and leg disorder, Randy started running at age 13 with the goal of overcoming this challenge and improving his speed for the various sports he played. Before long, he started seeing amazing positive changes and became very passionate about the activity that was enabling him to do things he had never been able to do before. He went on to compete for his high school and college track and cross country teams and followed that with over 25 more years of competitive running.
Even more rewarding than Randy’s personal running journey, however, has been the opportunity to help others achieve their goals. At age 21 he started coaching a local junior high school track team and soon realized that his greatest joy was found in helping runners become the best they could be. This desire to help athletes perform their best led him to return to school, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. Since completing graduate school in 1986, Coach Cox has served as Head Cross Country Coach at Xavier University for 5 years, coached cross country at Seton High School for the past 7 years, and guided many local runners to elite-level performances. He has coached multiple runners from the Cincinnati area to world and national age group titles, to wins at every major local road race, and to U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials births.
As rewarding as these successes have been, Coach Cox is just as excited when any of his runners achieves a personal goal, or when he has the opportunity to share his love of the sport with others. He has never forgotten the positive impact running has had on his life and wants to help runners of all ages and abilities to experience this as well through all means possible.
Team Tri-State Details
- 1 on 1 personal coaching with head coach Randy Cox.
- Customized workouts based on distance, fitness, and active feedback and discussions with Coach Cox.
- Seasonal membership runs from January 7 through July 1, 2025. Then again from July 8 through December 30, 2025.
- Weekly group workouts on Tuesday nights from the Edgewood store. These workouts will begin Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
- Optional easy run on Wednesday night, as well as a long run on Saturday mornings from the Edgewood store (regular training group membership is required).
- Team Racing Kit from our Sponsor New Balance including a shirt and singlet.
- Free entry to Edgewood 5K.
- Access to our Physical Therapy partner, Oxford Physical Therapy.
- All paces are welcome to join.
- Applicants will receive program registration information upon signing up.
