Karen Monea, Edgewood
I always wanted to run but life got in the way until 2009, I decided I was going to train and run a marathon. My husband of three years thought I was crazy saying, “People have died running in a marathon, why don’t you just work on running shorter distances faster?” When he finally realized I was determined, he started supporting my decision. I just wanted to prove to myself I could do it! Speed was not important to me I just wanted to finish! Since then I have completed 7 marathons.
I still lead a very busy life; volunteer work, along with working at Tri-State Running, taking care of my grandchild and family. Running helps me deal with the stress of everyday life. It helps me to be a better wife, mother and grandmother. It keeps me healthy and allows me to eat what I like. Young or old, we all need something to keep us healthy and happy. Running is my medicine. Working at Tri-State Running Company allows me to talk about one of the things I love. I get to share the challenges and triumphs I have enjoyed and help others reach their goals. It is a great joy to help others get more enjoyment out of life by being physically fit.
